Hanby House by venn architects provides sophisticated family living in Brighton. It is a house that makes a refined statement and has beautifully flowing light and space.
Completed at the end of 2013, the house provides all the features of a high quality new build. It has bright airy spaces, abundant storage, all bedrooms with ensuites, well situated living areas for parents and children and ample room for a family to grow. Quality details abound throughout the house, from seamless joinery, to walls which seemingly float above the ground, and hidden utility areas.
While striking in every way, the layout of the home is functional and practical. Built over three floors, it is designed around a central core, which houses utility areas, workstations, butler’s pantry, lift and access to the basement. The layout ensures all zones have living areas, all rooms have built in functionality and storage, and utility spaces and children’s areas are hidden. An entry void and highlight windows provide natural light throughout, even into the basement. The basement features all the “fun stuff” – a theatre, gym, steam room and cellar with sitting room.
The house itself is striking, its clean white rendered exterior contrasting with dark timber detailing. Inside, this palette gives the house a gallery feel, the interiors sharp, light and airy. Feature materials in muted greys soften the mood, with a volcanic rock “Argo Stone” feature wall in the entrance, European Oak joinery and lined boards on the ceilings.
The kitchen is stunning and expansive, with a 7m cantilevered Caesar Stone island bench accentuated by seamless European oak joinery. An custom overhead stainless steel range/light helps to define the kitchen space.
Part of our brief was to assist the owners in choosing furniture and furnishings to complement the space. Grey and black are used throughout, although touches of green reference the garden views. Bedrooms and bathrooms have a luxe day spa feel.
The house feels like it flows to the boundaries of the property, capturing views outside. A terraced outdoor entertaining area reaches into the garden, linking inside to out. It’s an inviting entertaining area, with built in outdoor cooking and seating, fireplace and a black mosaic-tiled swimming pool. The first floor floats over this space, creating a canopied area which can be enjoyed year round.
Hanby House has been designed so that its style and liveability will be appreciated and enjoyed for years to come.
